The challenge
Clovis Community Medical Center operates around the clock, and its aging metal-halide lighting — across the parking lots, garages, canopies, and building exteriors — was costly to run and maintain. In a 24/7 hospital environment, reliable, bright, low-maintenance lighting is a safety requirement, not a convenience.
The solution
NRG Incentives packaged a full exterior LED retrofit — converting 433 fixtures from legacy metal-halide to LED across parking-lot perimeters, garage canopies with motion sensors, and building area lights — and secured a $35,000 utility rebate through PG&E to offset the cost. Exterior fixtures carry a 10-year warranty, installed on a tight 2-week timeline to avoid disrupting hospital operations.
The results
The retrofit delivers $51,426.73 in annual energy savings, recovering the $300,775.25 investment — $265,775.25 net of the $35,000 rebate — in roughly 5.17 years, then compounding into net savings while the new lighting keeps working. Staff, patients, and visitors get even, glare-free light with far less maintenance strain.
